Music Ministry   We give thanks to God for music in all of its forms to express our worship!  Hope Lutheran’s congregation enjoys a long tradition of choir singing and music appreciation.  Participating in the music ministry provides opportunities for praising God through music, strengthening relationships, and enhancing the worship experience.  There are several opportunities available for participation in Hope’s music ministry.  You are invited to join in!

  • Hope Choir  –  The Hope Choir is open to members (high school through adult).  Hope Choir sings twice a month, September through May. Rehearsal is held Wednesday evening, 7:30-8:30.  Russ Carlson directs the Hope Choir.  Contact Russ if you are interested in joining the choir.

  • Celebration Singers  –  This contemporary music group (high school through adult) performs with piano and guitar.  Celebration Singers sing once a month, September through May. Rehearsal is held Wednesday evening, 6:30-7:30.  Russ Carlson directs the Celebration Singers.   Contact Russ if you are interested in joining the Celebration Singers.

  • Special Music  –  Members who have musical talent (vocal or instrumental) are invited to perform solo, duet or small ensemble.  Contact Russ Carlson or Nancy Cowan.

  • Wicks Pipe Organ  Our Wicks pipe organ was installed in 1969. March 28, 2009 marked the fortieth anniversary of the drafting of the blueprint to construct the Wicks two manual console Pipe Organ for Hope Lutheran Church. The Wicks Pipe Organ has been a central piece to our worship, and those who have led us over these years in the music of worship have certainly been a blessing to us.

Emmaus is held on the 3rd Wednesday of each month.  We have two parish nurses from Lyngblomsten join us to check any and all participant’s blood pressure and to give a brief health and wellness talk starting at 9:30 a.m.  At 11:00 a.m., we gather for a worship service including Holy Communion.  Following the worship service we have a potluck luncheon and a time of sharing stories and jokes.  While Emmaus has traditionally been a program for our senior members, it is open to anyone who is interested.  The name of the gathering, “Emmaus,” comes from the Gospel according to Luke, chapter 24, where the risen Jesus is made known to two disciples who were walking from Jerusalem to Emmaus.  He is made known to them as he breaks bread with them.

Adult Education Forums are held on Sundays at 11:00 a.m. on a regular basis during the school year.  They include Bible study and interesting discussions on a variety of topics.

Evangelical Lutheran Church Women (ELCW) meet as needed regarding various activities, such as their annual fall rummage sale, quilting, supporting Meals on Wheels, food shelves, Lyngblomsten, Adopt-a-Family, and others.

Book Club is held on the last Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m.  Participants choose which book to read for that month – generally something that has been a recent best-seller – and we talk about those parts that speak to our faith and life.  Recent books have included:  The Shack, The Poisonwood Bible, and The Secret Life of Bees.

Men’s Group meets for a variety of activities, such as attending Saint Paul Saints games, dining out together at various ethnic restaurants, and going to a Scout Camp in Wisconsin to grill steaks.  Good food and conversation are always the order of the day.

ISAIAH typically meets as a Saint Paul Caucus on the third Thursday of each month at an area congregation.  ISAIAH is a faith-based community organization that has over 80 congregations across the Twin Cities metro area working to put our faith into action.  As one of those member congregations, we strive for greater equality and justice in areas such as public transportation, public education, health care, ending domestic violence, living wage jobs, and more.  ISAIAH has many allies and is well respected among our elected public officials because of our focused engagement in this important work.  In addition to our monthly meetings, we engage in many other activities such as face-to-face meetings with our elected officials and have hosted candidate forums and town hall meetings.

Communion Visitors is a ministry to our seniors who are ill or homebound and would like to receive Holy Communion when they are unable to come to worship on Sunday mornings.  We have a number of people paired up and they typically make one visit a month.
